In Genesis chapter 12, God promises to curse those who curse Abraham and his descendants (Israel) and to bless those who bless them. The book of Obadiah emphasizes that God is serious about fulfilling this promise. He will bring judgment on any nation that opposes His chosen people, even if that nation is closely related, like Edom.
