Psalm 127:1 declares, “Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” From the very beginning of his reign, Saul demonstrates that he is determined to build his own house rather than trust the Lord to establish his kingdom. Instead of waiting on God and obeying His Word, Saul repeatedly takes matters into his own hands and relies on his own wisdom and strength. As a result, the Lord announces that his kingdom will be taken from him. Saul's life becomes a powerful illustration of the truth of Psalm 127: when God is not the One building the house, all human effort is ultimately in vain.
